They say it takes a village to raise a child; the same can be said for writing a book and navigating the quicksilver seas of growth and transition. Even though I was an experienced navigator and captain of the writing & publishing world, and outfitted my ship with honed skills and tools, my latest book, Beckoned by the Sea: Women at Work on the Cascadia Coast was a journey into uncharted waters. A challenge like no other that demanded everything I had and gave me, in the end, everything I need to push the boundaries and explore farther for the rest of my life. But it was my stalwart crew, my loving village, that kept me brave in the storms, true to my compass, and back safe to harbour.
